TMTG 069: A Champions Uprising with Chris "CROM" Romulo

We all think of champions as fighters who step in the ring, fight their heart out, and come away with a championship belt around the waist. Well, former WKA champion Chris Romulo is a champion in that sense AND a champion in the sense of overcoming many of lives obstacles that were thrown his way.

For those of you who don't know Chris or "CROM", he's been a major part of the NY Muay Thai community for decades and continues to have a positive influence on all those who surround him. Not only has he overcome multiple injuries to win a professional title, he also faced and conquered even more challenges when Hurricane Sandy hit his home town of Rockaway Beach back in 2012.

In this podcast, we talk about Chris' life story and his new book "Champions Uprising" which will be released on Amazon tomorrow (May 15th). Some of the topics which are covered are:
  • The struggles of growing up surrounded by a bad crowd and how a street fight almost ended his life.
  • How Muay Thai changed his life's direction and the lessons learned throughout his fight career.
  • What gave him the idea to write a book and his insights on difficult it was to relive some of his tough past experiences.
  • What "Physical Culture" is and why he's a big believer in living an active, healthy lifestyle.
  • How Hurricane Sandy destroyed his gym and his home and almost "KO'ed" his will to continue his training and teachin Muay Thai.
  • And much, much more!

TMTG 068: A Chat About Everything Muay Thai

Paul and I decided to switch things up and try our first ever LIVE podcast!
We thought it would be more fun interacting with the community on Facebook Live... and we were right!

Being able to answer a variety of fan questions live while covering a wide range of topics was a great time, so we'll definitely be doing it again in the future. We also gave away free Muay Thai Guys/Girls Do It Better T-Shirts, so you won't want to miss the next one!

Since we had thousands of people tune in throughout the show, we had plenty of things to chat about. Here we're some of the questions we tackled:
  • The pros and cons of weight cutting and how to cut weight the healthy way.
  • What do you recommend for weight training? Full body or push/pull/legs? Also, are there any plans for a curriculum for those that can't get into their gym often?
  • What is Chris Mauceri's next step? Is he staying kickboxing for now or also fighting Muay Thai?
  • When does Paul plan on fighting again? And with what promotion?
  • When does Sean want to get back into the ring?
  • When should a fighter hang them up? If they haven't taken a bunch of damage over the years is it different? Or is it an age thing as well?
  • Do you think one sanctioning body to overlook the sport would be beneficial? I don't know about the US but there are so many different sanctioning bodies that all score differently. What do you think?
  • What's the key to getting Muay Thai to the level of Glory and other kickboxing promotion?
  • I have my Kru certification in Thailand for Muay Thai. Does that mean anything to real fighters who fight Muay Thai?
  • What do you think about a potential matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor? Do you believe Muay Thai needs a crossover fight to gain more exposure?
  • And many other awesome questions!
